Chicken Wings
Chicken wings or more commonly known as “Buffalo wings” outside the area are a staple of the city.
Starting in 1964 at the Anchor Bar on Main St, deep fried chicken wings with hot sauce was served for the first time. Today, the area is well known for it’s outstanding wings almost anywhere.
Locals would claim there’s no place to get wings like Buffalo, NY.
Beef on Weck
Adapted from Europe, the sandwich has been served in the area for nearly two centuries.
One staple space, Schwabl’s restaurant has been around since 1837.
These sandwiches are piled high with rare-sliced beef and served on a kaiser roll with salt and caraway seed. Top with horseradish and side of chips.
Sponge Candy
While not invented in Buffalo, sponge candy is a local favorite and popular treat.
This airy, toffee candy is dipped in dark or milk chocolate and served in 1 inch cubes.
There are many candy manufacturers in the area specializing in the making of sponge candy including Antoinnettes and Fowler’s.
